Empowering Our Community
Selwyn Holder
I am determined to empower and assist in developing St. Philip North communities. Together, we will create a platform for change across Barbados. A vote for me is a vote for change.
How We Can Help
We face challenges daily. Let's discuss key issues, set goals, and rebuild our community together.
01
A Holistic Approach to Crime Prevention
There has been a noticeable rise in criminal activity within our community, and its effects are widespread. Let's combat crime by fostering strong community connections and addressing root causes like poverty and inequality
02
Nurturing Tomorrow's Leaders by Empowering the Youth
Due to our failing education system, young people have been grappling with a sense of aimlessness. Let's develop detailed programs that provide them valuable mentorship opportunities, skill-building, creativity, and nurturing leadership qualities.
03
Developing Technology for Growth and Innovation
Rural areas within our St. Philip North community often struggle with their technological underdevelopment. Our community can develop technologically by investing in digital facilities for our students and supporting local tech startups
04
Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Empowering Small Businesses
Entrepreneurs face many challenges when getting started. We need to provide avenues for individuals in the community to start up their small businesses through funding, education, and community support
05
Combat High Cost of Living to Improve Overall Quality of Life
The current cost of living in Barbados has reached unprecedented levels. We must offer diverse and sustainable alternatives for sourcing food, products, and services, empowering our local communities to better manage challenges
06
Transforming the Youth's Education For Future Success
The current education system prioritizes academics over individual growth. Let's improve the youth's education by embracing innovative teaching methods that develop each student based on their strengths, and integrating technology into learning
Vision & Beliefs
To address the issues within our community, we must look at the big picture. I believe in:
- Education for individual & community growth
- Equality in the home and workplace
- Integrity, honesty and trustworthiness
- Giving a voice to those in need
What We Have Achieved
Over the years, I have done all I can to assist members of the St. Philip Community to tackle daily challenges.
Created computer centres for schools in rural communities
St. Philip Primary urgently needed technological upgrades in the wake of COVID-19. Selwyn made donations of laptops to students in need and provided them with two computers and a wireless printer, which reside at the Selwyn Holder Computer Centre.
Donated masks to schools during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Princess Margaret Secondary School, St. Philip's, St. Catherine, and St. Mark's Primary Schools received a generous donation of 2000 disposable face masks to support the safety of students and staff
Donated to programs that provide food hampers to those in need
Selwyn donated to St. Philip's Parish Church's Deacon's Cupboard, which helps families in need each month. The Deacon's Cupboard provides food to those facing instability, ensuring their well-being.
Donated school supplies to St. Philip North primary schools
The Holder Community Trust is committed to contributing to the needs of the St. Philip North primary school students. The trust has made donations of school supplies to St. Philip North primary schools over the last few years
